4.0: It's on and Argentina blink first, failing to catch the kick-off.

4.02: Both teams square up to each other; old friends Denis Leamy and Felipe Contepomi exchanging pleasantries.

4.04: Ireland kick penalty to corner rather than at goal but it goes straight through Paul O'Connell's hands at lineout: massive moment in terms of momentum.

4.07: O'Driscoll and Eoin Reddan take turns to play each other into trouble. Pumas get a penalty but Felipe Contepomi misses from 30 metres.

4.10: Ronan O'Gara puts in a poor kick and Denis Hickie has to outpace Felipe Contepomi to prevent a try.

4.13: O'Gara's kicking out of hand is costing Ireland as he kicks one over the dead-ball line after Ireland get a turnover.

4.16: Shocking mix-up in Irish defence from an ordinary eight-nine-14 move from Argentinian five-metre scrum. Lucas Borges bounces over the line but Contepomi misses conversion, 0-5.

4.19: Pumas caught using hands in ruck. O'Gara kicks penalty, 3-5.

4.20: O'Gara misses touch and his opposite number Juan Martín Hernández drops a fine goal, 3-8.

4.23: Gordon D'Arcy makes a poor decision and this time it's O'Gara who has to scramble the ball away with Ignacio Corleto bearing down on him.

4.24: Neil Best is on as a blood replacement for David Wallace. Ireland continue to make simple mistakes and compound them with some dreadful option-taking.

4.29: Wallace returns. Ireland are doing things as individuals, while the Pumas are catching, driving and kicking and holding their opponents easily in check.

4.31: Another Ireland backline moves ends in a shambles.

4.33: Leamy brilliantly rescues a lineout, the Irish backs click beautifully and O'Driscoll pirouettes out of a tackle for a great try. O'Gara converts and suddenly there's life in Parc des Princes. 10-8.

4.37: Ireland continue to make some appalling errors and Hernández drops his second goal, 10-11.

4.40: O'Gara fails to find touch, the chase is too slow, Hernández brilliantly reclaims up-and-under and some neat interpassing eventually finishes with Horacio Agulla scoring in the corner. Felipe Contepomi converts via a post, 10-18.

4.43: Half-time.

4.53: The second half begins and O'Connell claims but when O'Gara kicks the ball out the Pumas do what they have been doing superbly, catching the lineout and mauling it 20 metres.

4.55: Ireland pull down maul, Contepomi kicks penalty, 10-21.

5.02: O'Driscoll edges outside his man, Wallace supports and gives a perfectly timed pass for Murphy to score. O'Gara misses conversion, 15-21.

5.09: You could almost set your watch by another Irish error. It's killing their momentum. Unfortunately O'Gara's kicking is becoming a serious liability.

5.10: Now it's his passing. It's not only him as there is no rhyme nor reason to Ireland's game, choked as it is by insecurities.

5.16: Contepomi penalty, 15-24. Yes, it comes from another Irish turnover.

5.20: O'Callaghan penalised for high tackle. Contepomi kicks it (15-27) and Ireland make three changes when the game is all but over.

5.25: Denis Hickie's rugby-playing career is finished, his last cap.

5.30: The Irish supporters still in the Parc des Princes offer a rendition of the Fields of Athenry. A penalty is kicked to the corner but it's difficult to believe that there won't be another error.

5.31: O'Gara's chip kick is blocked and Ireland require rescuing again. This time it's Shane Horgan who has to bail them out.

5.34: Another couple of turnovers and Ireland are back in their own 22.

5.35: Hernández drops another superb goal, 15-30. Double scores. As comprehensive as you like.

5.36: It's over. Party time for the supporters of the winners, who dance their way out of the stadium.
