An inspired performance by Belgian goalkeeper Braum Verbist deprived Ireland of victory in the opening match of a four-nation tournament against the hosts in Bruges.

Verbist made a stunning early save from Stockport striker Jonathan Daly and excelled himself with stops from Sean Thornton, Liam Kearney, Daly again and Leonard Walker in a second-half Ireland dominated.

The penalty shoot-out result only comes into effect if teams are level on points at the end of the tournament.
