SOME unfinished business was put to rest at Brixham Sailing Club on the south coast of England yesterday when the Dun Laoghaire Laser 2 team of Sean Craig and Ben O'Donoghue won the British Laser 2 national championships.
A last race cancellation enabled Craig, an Irish Laser 2 champion from the Royal St George Yacht club and O'Donoghue, a 1996 470 trialist from the National Yacht Club, join forces again for an assault on the British title. They were runners up in the 1993 British national championships.
The regatta was sailed in a variety of wind strengths with the Irish pair having one win, three thirds and a fifth.
With the 1993 defeat very much on their minds, the pair were determined to hold on to their 4.5 point lead over the 79 boat fleet. As it happened their points margin after five races was secure with the series concluding a day early because of insufficient wind. IYRU ladies champions, the Cuthbert sisters of England were second.
