Europe and Africa fought it out on the high seas of Strandhill last weekend in the European Bodyboard Cup. Now known as one of the best surfing areas in the world, the Irish coast provided the biggest surf for a major competition in Europe since the World Surfing Championships in France in 1992.
With a seven-metre coastal swell and waves reaching a height of 20 feet, the surfers actually revolted on Saturday afternoon.
Still, three Irish surfers, Tramore's Jamie Byrne, Nicole Morgan from Bundoran and Easkey Britton from Rossnowlagh helped Europe defeat an African team backboned by South Africans, who are currently ranked fourth in the world.
