A strong contingent of Irish rally crews compete in the Tour of Luxembourg this weekend. Ian Greer and Dean Beckett (Corolla WRC) and Derek McGarrity and Dermot O'Gorman (Impreza WRC) are seeded fourth and fifth respectively, and Irish contenders fill the ninth, 10th and 12th seedings.
An Irish victory is on the cards, the most likely winners being the experienced Greer and the very quick McGarrity. Ninth seeds Eamonn Boland and Anthony Nestor in an Impreza WRC may also finish in the top six.
The two-day event is based in Ettelbruck, 15 miles north of Luxembourg city, covering 18 stages and 170 miles.
Sunday's motorcycle race meeting scheduled for Mondello Park has been cancelled due to the track not being ready. The Irish motor racing season is expected to finally start at Mondello on May 6th/7th.
The Monaghan road races, to have been held at Glaslough on June 23rd/24th, are the latest to fall in a list of motorcycle race cancellations.
Dubliner Eddie Laycock, a double Isle of Man TT winner in the late 1980s, has formed Team Ireland to contest motorcycle races in England plus some selected Irish road races, if held. Team Ireland riders are the experienced Woolsely Coulter (Portadown) and the ever-improving Martin Finnegan (Lusk). Also competing in Britain is Hilton Hinks of Tramore.
