Ireland won the Presidents' Cup for a record fourth successive time in the Gaelic Youth Amateur Boxing championships held at Swansea. Irish boxers dominated the finals, winning six gold and six silver medals.
Jamie Dowling of the Paulstown club gave the Irish team the best possible start by stopping Stuart Tullis of Scotland in the opening round of their Group A 45 kilo event.
Patrick Maughan, of CIE, easily out-pointed Kieran Owen of Wales at Group A 48 kilos, and Patrick Taylor, of St Agnes, beat Euan Evans, of Wales, in the second round.
Cormac O'Conaire, of the Bay City Club, son of IABA president Brendan O'Conaire, looked a great prospect as he won the Group A 60 kilo gold. Then Hugh Joyce, of St Michael's Athy, and Gavin Brown, of Crumlin, won the Group B 48 kilos and 51 kilos top honours to round off a great night for the Irish team.
