France's Laurent Jalabert, riding for the ONCE team, won the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia to Ancona yesterday in a 32km time-trial.

He also reclaims the leader's pink jersey although he is on the same time as Italy's Marco Pantani in the overall standings.

Jalabert finished 25 seconds ahead of Ukraine's Sergei Honchar and 55 seconds ahead of Pantani in yesterday's stage.

Jalabert admitted he was more than happy with his form, saying: "I was targeting a stage victory. As far as the pink jersey is concerned it depended on Pantani's performance."
