Following the abandonment of Dundalk's May 22nd fixture because of the state of the track, there will be some interest in how the racecourse is presented this evening. Clearly, trainers have had no qualms in entering the six races, for over 40 horses have been balloted out despite an official ground forecast of "good to firm".
The result is a competitive card which includes four handicaps for punters to try and untangle. There is also a £2,239 Jackpot carry over, and it's in the first leg of that, the Blackrock Maiden, that the nap is given to Jimmy Swift.
Noel Meade's Petardia colt has had six goes already this season to try and break his duck but this looks the best opportunity yet.
Jimmy Swift proved he is currently on good terms with himself when running second to Khatani over 10 furlongs at Roscommon a fortnight ago. A length behind him in third was Golden Rule, who subsequently won at Ballinrobe, with one of tonight's opponents, the Dermot Weld-trained Cavallina, back in third.
Jimmy Swift had previously run well for a long way behind Campo Catino at Leopardstown, where Latterly could never get in a blow, and the formlines look to give him an excellent chance. Another horse who has done well around Leopardstown recently is Amontillado. This one has been successful twice there recently and looks set to get three on the bounce in the Omeath Handicap. Amontillado showed definite signs of continued improvement when beating Hasanat by two lengths last time and the form was boosted by Jilted's Sligo success on Monday.
Dromhall Lady's last race was when behind Amontillado at the Foxrock track at the start of the month and she looked somewhat unlucky when a fast-finishing sixth.
Danny Grant is one of the better riders in the Derrinstown Handicap and he and Dromhall Lady will be hard to beat.
