Champions League round up: Juventus set a new Champions League record with a 7-0 victory over Olympiakos assured them top spot in Group D in Turin last night.

The result was the biggest winning margin in Champions League history and means the Greeks finish bottom of the group and fail to qualify for the consolation spot in the UEFA Cup.

Juve had already qualified for the second phase but after three straight defeats in Serie A and Europe they showed no mercy as they ripped apart a woeful Greek defence.

Two first-half goals from David Trezeguet in the 14th and 25th minutes and one each from Fabrizio Miccoli (19) and Enzo Maresca (28) had Juve cruising by half-time.

But Juve were in no mood to settle for 4-0 and Marco Di Vaio, Alessandro Del Piero and Marcelo Zalayeta added to the Greeks misery with second half goals to set the new championship record..

Real Sociedad clinched second place in the group with a nervy 1-1 draw at home to Galatasaray.

Hakan Sukur gave Galatasaray the lead on 25 minutes but Sociedad continued to press forward and eventually claimed the equaliser six minutes after the break through Oscar de Paula.

AS Monaco qualified in first place in Group C despite a lacklustre 0-0 draw at AEK Athens.

With the home side already eliminated and Monaco already through to the knockout stage the visitors were content to defend in numbers.

Deportivo Coruna's 3-2 defeat at PSV Eindhoven meant Monaco could not be caught at the top of the the group and Deportivo qualified in second place.

Second-half goals from substitute Albert Luque and Walter Pandiani ensured Deportivo went through.

Strikes from John de Jong in the 14th minute and Arjen Robben just after half-time had given PSV hopes of qualifying but these faded when Luque's 58th minute free kick found the bottom corner of Ronald Waterreus's net.

Because of the League's head-to-head results rules Guus Hiddink's side then needed to win by three clear goals and that task proved too tough.

Pandiani rubbed salt into Dutch wounds seven minutes from time poking home a goalmouth cross and de Jong's injury time winner made no difference to the qualification outcome.
