CRICKET/SOUTH AFRICA v WEST INDIES: Jacques Kallis scored a century to guide South Africa to a one-day series win over West Indies yesterday. South Africa won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Kallis struck 121 not out in South Africa's total of 256 for three after West Indies, who won the toss, made 252 for seven from 50 overs with Marlon Samuels top-scoring on 98.

Kallis faced 133 balls and hit 12 fours and a six in his 16th one-day century, but it was his first international ton at St George's Park. The visitors were put on the path to their useful total in a second-wicket stand of 75 between Sewnarine Chattergoon and debutant Patrick Browne.

The partnership was ended in the 24th over when off-spinner Johan Botha bowled Chattergoon off the edge of his bat for 52.

PAKISTAN v ZIMBABWE: Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 37 runs in the third one-day international in the Punjab Province of Multan yesterday to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Shahid Afridi's 85 was the bedrock on which the hosts' total of 272 was built, and even 71 from Sean Williams and 55 from Brendan Taylor was not enough for Zimbabwe to keep the series alive heading into the fourth game in Faisalabad on Wednesday.

Elton Chigumbura also hit an unbeaten 42 for the tourists, who reached 235 for seven before they ran out of overs.

Zimbabwe opener Vusi Sibanda managed just six runs before edging Sohail Tanvir's delivery to wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal in the third over.

Fellow opener Hamilton Masakadza (10) became Tanvir's second scalp when he was caught at first slip by Younus Khan.

Williams and Tatenda Taibu then took the score to 50 before the latter was run out for 10.

Taylor joined Williams in the middle and the pair combined well to bring Zimbabwe back into the match, putting on a 105-run partnership before Taylor was stumped by the quick-thinking Akmal.
