Mark Keane and Pat Tobin have been removed from the Limerick senior hurling panel for disciplinary reasons. The former All-Ireland Under-21 medal winners fell foul of the team's management following the recent league defeat by Wexford.
A county board spokesman, confirming that both had been disciplined, said the matter now rested with manager Joe McKenna and his selectors. "It is up to them to decide if the players concerned will return. There is a growing confidence in the panel and in time it will all come right."
Keane quit the county senior football panel late last year to concentrate on hurling and in a recent challenge against Waterford scored nine points. Tobin has also been a regular marksman with the hurling team.
The panel has been further reduced with the decision taken by goalkeeper John Cahill to quit.
Sligo footballers will have an anxious wait to see if Eamonn O'Hara will be fit for this year's championship. The former All Star undergoes a scan tomorrow to determine the extent of the damage to his ankle.
"Eamonn sprained it in the Armagh game," said manager Dominic Corrigan, "and he's going in for an MRI scan on Wednesday. It could mean he's out for the season if it turns out to be a ligament rupture."
Meanwhile, late, late goals from Darragh Egan and Conor Hayes helped Kildangan snatch the Intermediate club All-Ireland title in dramatic fashion at Semple Stadium yesterday.
The Tipp side had trailed Kilkenny's Carrickshock by a goal at the end of normal time (1-12 to 0-12), but they used the extra-time to good effect. Top scorer Daragh Egan goaled to draw his side level, before a Tommy Connors point and Conor Hayes goal secured the spoils.
An outstanding performance by intercounty players Paul Galvin, who scored a goal and seven points, and centre back Eamon Fitzmaurice paved the way for another Kerry All-Ireland victory at Portlaoise yesterday, with Finuge winning the junior football title.
