Keane just fine by Jol

Tottenham head coach Martin Jol insisted Robbie Keane still has a future at the club despite his show of petulance during last weekend's Premiership draw with Birmingham.

Keane has started just four of Tottenham's last 12 games and stormed down the tunnel when Jol chose to introduce Mido from the bench in the second half against Birmingham.

Keane was fined £10,000, sparking suggestions he would be on his way out of the club. But Jol has played down the significance of Keane's fine.

"Have you seen our fines list? We have a code of conduct for everything, even for things like coming in late. If you don't do that there will be anarchy at the club. It is a normal thing," Jol said. "He was upset because he didn't come on. I would normally put him on, especially at home, but this situation was different.

"We have had a chat. Nothing is more important than the club and he knows that. It is important we stay strong as a unit and that is why I don't like it when players step out of line because the most important thing is that we achieve something. That was the case at Birmingham.

"It is not about him accepting my decision to put him on the bench. He was a bit emotional but he never causes me a problem. It is one of those things.

"I think he is happy to stay at Spurs. He knows he is an important player for us. He has been involved in a lot of games for us this season, more than Fredi Kanoute, and he is productive for us."

Meanwhile, Mike Dean will have to reapply for his job as an English Premier League referee after being banned yesterday for the rest of the season.

The 36-year-old had been suspended since February 27th in connection with an investigation of his involvement in a gambling website for horseracing punters.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is confident Neil Lennon and Jackie McNamara will stay at the club despite speculation about their futures. Speaking before tomorrow's Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts, O'Neill said he was hopeful the pair would agree new contracts.

"I'd like them to stay and I believe Neil Lennon and Jackie McNamara are certainly capable of doing exactly what they have been doing for the last few years at this football club," he said.

"Obviously, Neil is a few years older than Jackie and therefore there is the length of contract, which is something that might be discussed, although I have to say at this minute I don't think that is the major issue.

"Neil Lennon might, after four and a half years here, decide that he might want to try something else. But we are in discussions at this minute and if he stays on at this football club I will be delighted."
