HORSE RACING: Southwell is to stage an additional all-weather Flat fixture on Saturday because other meetings may be lost if the forecast of bad weather materialises.
The decision agreed by the British Horseracing Board, Levy Board and Arena Leisure means the three all-weather tracks in England will be used on Saturday.
Fixtures were already scheduled in the afternoon for Lingfield and under floodlights in the evening at Wolverhampton.
So far, no problems are reported at the three planned National Hunt meetings at Sandown, Uttoxeter and Wetherby. The next 24 hours or so are said to be crucial and the tracks are keeping a close eye on the weather.
Kelso will hold an inspection this morning to determine prospects for today's meeting.
The race track is currently reported to be in a good condition but the clerk of the course, Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell, said yesterday: "We are fine at the moment but will have a precautionary look at 7.30 in the morning.
"The ground is good to soft, soft in places - the best it's been all winter - but if the forecast is right we could get some snow. The forecast is terrible."
