League of Ireland Premier Division/Sligo Rovers 0 Cork City 1:Seán Kelly's second-half goal gave Cork City their first win over Sligo Rovers in three meetings this season.
Michael Devine was kept busy in the Cork goal during the first half of this lacklustre game at the Showgrounds on Saturday but Paul Cooke's side failed to finish a number of promising moves.
Cork's assistant manager, Dave Hill, was delighted: "A great result after Sligo's two wins over us earlier in the season. The pitch was very heavy and tricky but we got to grips with the play in the second half, with corner kicks and throw-ins, and the goal was also from a set-piece."
Sligo have managed only one win and three draws in 10 games but Cooke is pleased that overall his team had "a decent season".
Leon McSweeney and John O'Flynn created a couple of early openings for Cork but the first real chance was Sligo's when Matthew Judge had his shot saved by Devine after seven minutes.
Tomislav Arcaba in the Sligo goal did well to keep out a Gareth Farrelly piledriver on 24 minutes.
Matthew Gordon, Judge and substitute Brian Cash caused anxious moments for Cork before Farrelly went close for the Leesiders as half-time approached.
Cork broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Kelly headed past Arcaba from McSweeney's corner kick, and the winners looked the more likely to score again in the closing stages.
