Offaly SFC Final/Tullamore 1-12 Shamrocks 0-12:Tullamore stretched their lead at the head of the Offaly senior football roll of honour when they came from behind to capture their 26th title by defeating Shamrocks by 1-12 to 0-12 yesterday at O'Connor Park.
Having appeared to be in a perilous position when trailing by double scores - 0-4 to 0-8 - at half-time the Tullamore management team made what proved to be a match-winning move by switching John Kenny from corner forward to spearhead their attack.
Although contributing only one point directly, he created openings for a number of scores, including the game's only goal, finished by Gearóid O'Grady 10 minutes into the second half.
O'Grady had an outstanding game at full forward and finished the hour with 1-6 to his credit, all from play.
With Neville Coughlan and Shane Cunningham dominating midfield, Shamrocks recovered from early arrears of 0-3 to 0-1 to reel off an unbroken sequence of seven points that left them in a good position.
The second half saw a different pattern emerge; by the 41st minute Tullamore had drawn level following 1-1 notched by O'Grady in the space of a minute. They never looked back, scoring the final three points of the game.
