The Kerry County Board are to proceed with plans to develop a 15,000-capacity stadium on the outskirts of Tralee, and it is hoped to be ready in early 2010. The stadium, which will replace Austin Stack Park, will be located within the confines of Ballybeggan Park Racecourse.
The facilities will be provided to a finish by John J Casey Project Management Ltd, with Kerry GAA incurring no cost.
In a trade-off, however, the developers will gain ownership of the six-acre site on which Austin Stack Park is situated.
Kerry County Board are set to gain 56 acres fully developed for the loss of six, and the proposed move looks certain to be passed by a huge majority of Kerry clubs, with a simple majority needed.
The floodlit stadium will have 6,000 seats under a covered stand and a capacity for 9,000 on the terraces. There will be a second pitch beside the ground, and the deal includes the provision of 30 acres for a training academy at Currans.
This will include four sand-based, all-weather, floodlit pitches.
