Kilkenny have imposed a ban on supporters attending training in the run-up to the All-Ireland hurling semi-final against Galway at Croke Park on August 21st.
In a surprise move, manager Brian Cody and his selectors asked the county board to impose the ban and it was agreed.
Kilkenny resumed training at Nowlan Park last night before empty stands and terraces. Apparently the selectors want to try a few new things after two poor performances against Wexford and Limerick.
Such a ban is a most unusual situation in Kilkenny, where fans are generally encouraged to attend training sessions because it in turn encourages the players.
However, the board did not endorse a full three-week ban in the build-up to the semi-finals. On the recommendation of the board the doors will be thrown open to the fans for the last week of training.
