The Kilkenny Senior Scratch Cup, sponsored by Smithwick's, will go ahead on Sunday May 20th. This is the 38th year of the prestigious 36-hole event which will feature 12 gross and six nett prizes. The Kilkenny course has been extensively modified over the past two years and now has 18 challenging sand-based greens. As this will be the first senior event on the fully modified course a special prize will be offer for the lowest 18-hole gross score on the day, which will constitute a new course record. The inaugural event was won by local Tom Duggan, who is still playing to a handicap of five, while other former winners include JB Carr, Brian Malone, Martin O'Brien, Mark Gannon, Liam McNamara, Eddie Power and Padraig Harrington.
