"Playing like this, anything is possible, even survival in the Premier division," beamed Kilkenny manager Alfie Hale after Saturday night's game. "We should have won. The players are happy. Their confidence is high, and this season is really only beginning for us." Eight points behind UCD, who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot, and 18 from safety, Hale will need to retain this optimism if they are to survive.
Bohemians were all but chased and harried out of Buckley Park. The did, however, dictate matters for much of the first half. Their goal from Graham Lawlor in the 24th minute, following a cross from Brian Mooney, was well deserved.
After the break, John Power, Paul Cashin, Brendan Rea and Davy Walsh had Bohemians in a tizzy. Eventually, in the 81st minute, Kilkenny equalised. John Power was sent racing in behind the defence on the right. His powerful low cross was met on the edge of the small area by Aidan Cooney and the ball was turned into the net.
