Kilkenny City have vowed to continue their battle for survival in the FAI Cup. At an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors last night, City decided to appeal against both the ban and fine which were imposed by the FAI Board of Management last Friday. Kilkenny were thrown out of the Cup for failing to turn up for their quarter-final replay against Finn Harps at Ballybofey last night week. They were also hit with a £2,500 fine by the FAI. The club's solicitor was invited to last night's board meeting and he was instructed to seek senior counsel advice on the matter. In a prepared statement, Kilkenny said they would be informing the FAI of their decision to appeal within the time laid down by rule.
The teams played a cracking 2-2 draw at Buckley Park on Saturday week. Kilkenny had five players unavailable for that game because of injury, and when they had only 10 fit bodies available for the replay, they sought a postponement. When this request was turned down by the FAI, City were warned that if they did not turn up for the replay they would be thrown out of the cup and would also face other sanctions from the FAI.
