County star Nicky Horan sent over 14 points as Kilmessan took the Meath senior hurling title for the first time since 1990 with victory over defending champions Rathmolyon at Trim yesterday.
After losing three finals in a row, Kilmessan were always in control this time, with the accuracy of Horan - 11 of whose points came from frees - proving crucial. All-Ireland football winner Jimmy McGuinness also showed up well in the winners' attack, scoring two points from play. Kilmessan led by 0-10 to 1-5 at half-time.
