Who can beat Haile Gebrselassie? Considering he hasn't lost a 10,000 metres race since 1993, it would take something of a miracle for any other runner to stop Haile Gebrselassie from winning his fourth straight World Championships 10,000 metres gold.
Indeed, there comes a time when an athlete can be almost too good, and winning championships and setting records becomes so commonplace that people begin to expect it. His consistency at a level no other runner has been able to match means the challenge for Gebrselassie is not only to win, but to continue to amaze.
Despite not running any 10,000 metres this season, everybody has already put the gold medal around Gebrselassie's neck. The only possible rival is five times world cross country champion Paul Tergat, but of course, like everybody else, he has never beaten Gebreselassie on the track.
