YOUNG MUNSTER occupy second place in the Division 1A table, just a point behind Cork Constitution, following their hard-earned 15-9 success over St Mary’s College at Tom Clifford Park.
Once again, Alan Kingsley was the key figure. Now playing at scrumhalf because of the long-term injury to Mike Prendergast, Kingsley landed four penalties and a dropped goal. His winning kick came just three minutes from the end.
St Mary’s, surprisingly now bottom of the table, had two penalties from Gavin Dunne and one from Ian McKinley.
Elsewhere, Blackrock produced a second decent performance for their new coaching team of Andy Wood and Simon Broughton. Having run Cork Constitution close the previous week, they travelled to Musgrave Park to beat Dolphin 21-16.
There was never much in it, but Blackrock will argue that they deserved their success on the basis that they scored two tries to one.
Wing Andrew Conway secured the first, and the second came from secondrow Paul Graham after he blocked down an attempted clearance.
In Division 1B, Moss Keane was remembered by his two former clubs, Lansdowne and UCC, as they faced one another at the Aviva Stadium.
Lansdowne, upset by Buccaneers first time out, ran riot to win 61-13.
They scored eight tries, with John Cooney and Matt Healy getting two apiece.
But Clontarf continue to lead the way at the top of the table after comfortably beating Galwegians 33-11 at Crowley Park. They managed five tries.
Buccaneers are in second spot after travelling to Kilballyowen Park to secure an impressive 26-18 victory over Bruff.
In the final game, UL Bohemians got their season going by accounting for Dungannon 23-19 at Stevenson Park.
The victory was badly needed following their surprise opening home defeat to Galwegians.
