MOTOR SPORT: Grand Prix winners John Watson and Eddie Irvine cut their racing teeth on the Kirkistown circuit in Co Down and this year Kirkistown celebrates its 50th birthday with seven motor race meetings.

The British Historic Formula Juniors will be featured at the opening meeting on April 5th, followed by the BRDC Sports Cars on May 3rd and Kirkistown's first Formula Ford Festival on June 27th-28th. The Kirkistown racing dates are: April 5th, May 3rd, May 24th, June 27th/28th, July 26th, August 30th, September 27th.

Following victory in the recent Midland MC Hewison Trophy autotest, Eddie Peterson has taken over the championship lead from JJ Farrell, on 191 and 189 points, respectively. The Erskine twins returned to form in the last three outings of the sporting trials with Gordon heading Philip in their Erskine-Harley Davidson.
