EQUESTRIAN:Jessica Kürten won two classes at the four-star show in Leipzig at the weekend, rounding off the three-day international action with victory in yesterday's featured Rolex FEI World Cup class on Castle Forbes Libertina.
The Germany-based Co Antrim rider was drawn second last to go in the 12-horse jump-off and really put it up to the final rider, the home team's Marco Kutscher, when going clear in 33.60.
Kutscher, winner of Saturday night's six-bar competition, failed to respond to the challenge as his mount Cash picked up four faults in the slow time of 35.87 and dropped to 11th.
Kürten not only received over €21,000 for this win in the Leipzig Grand Prix but also 20 valuable World Cup points which saw her extend her lead over the absent Spanish rider Rutherford Latham Morehead in the western European league.
On Saturday afternoon, Kürten won the 49-starter young horse qualifier on the eight-year-old chestnut mare Quidana.
This daughter of Quidam de Revel is one of a strong team of horses owned by Finnish show jumpers Noora Pentti and her partner Mikko Forstéwho are based in the Netherlands.
Mayo's Cameron Hanley, winner of the opening international class on Friday, finished fourth here on SIEC Alienne, a similarly aged chestnut mare by Alvarez.
Later on Saturday, Kürten went on to finish fifth in the jump-off class on the Tarzan de Beaulieu gelding Jipey Dark.
The 11-year-old was clear in the second round in 35 seconds but this left him some way adrift of the winner Coquet, ridden for Germany by Christian Ahlmann.
The German show also hosted the finals of the FEI driving World Cup which was won by the home-based Christoph Sandmann.
