Last night the Laois County Board decided against issuing a statement on the tunnel fracas at the weekend's Leinster semi-final against Dublin in Croke Park, writes Seán Moran.
The incidents were partly seen on television during the broadcast but most of what happened was out of sight of the lenses.
Earlier in the day despite persistent rumours that people connected with the Laois team had been struck, officials denied all knowledge of the events.
According to county secretary Niall Handy: "The stewards broke it up. Nothing serious took place. We're happy to move on and put it behind us. We'll deal with the investigation when it arises."
County chairman Dick Miller yesterday afternoon said that a statement would be issued later last night. "We've a county board meeting," he told The Irish Times, "and will issue a statement on the whole thing and put it to bed."
He went on to say that although he had been in the midst of those leaving the field at half-time he hadn't noticed anything untoward.
"I was at the back end of the tunnel and I didn't see it. I've heard all sorts of stories about what was supposed to have happened but I still haven't seen anyone who got a belt. There was a lot of pushing and shoving going on but you'll often get these things happening.
"The stewards were I think taken a bit unawares by the whole thing but it was sorted out."
Late last night the Laois PRO Marcella Daly announced that the expected statement would not be forthcoming.
"It's over and done with and the match won. There's been no statement issued and there won't be one. Everyone came out of it unscathed and we're looking forward to five weeks' time.
"Basically it wasn't even raised. There's no story. We're happy enough to put it behind us. If there's an investigation we'll deal with it when it arises."
The Games Administration Committee is expected to launch an investigation into the matter but it wasn't discussed at yesterday's meeting to fix venues and dates for the second round of the All-Ireland football qualifiers.
"Today's meeting was purely for the purposes of setting the qualifier fixtures," said GAC chair Tony O'Keeffe. "We haven't yet received the referee's report or the monitor's report. They'll be considered at our next meeting and the matter will be taken from there."
