Cork City manager Derek Mountfield was slightly fearful in Lausanne last night that his team's lack of pre-season fixtures may come back to haunt them in tonight's UEFA Cup tie.

The former Everton and Aston Villa star expects to have a full-strength team for what is Cork City's 18th European fixture in their short history. Club captain Declan Daly and influential midfielder Mark Herrick have shaken off slight knocks overnight and look set to play in what will be a four-five-one formation at the Stade Olympique.

Mountfield said he would happily settle for a draw in tonight's away leg. "Certainly I would have preferred if we had played an extra game or two pre-season, but circumstances were against us. I hope we don't suffer because of it tonight. While we want to avoid defeat at all costs, the opening 15 to 20 minutes will be vital, but if we could poach an away goal, that would be the icing on the cake," said Mountfield.

Lausanne, who were league and cup runners-up, have just one injury worry in what is a multi-national team. French mid-fielder Stephane Santini has a back injury and faces a late fitness test. Lausanne are second in the Swiss first division, having lost twice in six games. They lost 3-0 to Grasshoppers of Zurich on the opening day of the season and suffered a 3-1 setback away to the defending league champion, St Gallen, over the weekend.

The club's biggest moment in a European context came last season when they beat Spanish side, Celta Vigo, 3-2, again in the UEFA Cup, only to lose the away leg 4-0. Manager Pierre-Andre Schurmann will not name his side until an hour before kick-off, but the big danger to Cork comes from the twin strike force of Argentine Javier Mazzoni and Polish-born Marcin Kuzba.

Cork City: Mooney; O'Halloran, Daly, Napier, Delaney; O'Brien, Freyne, Herrick, Flanagan, Cahill; Morley.
