Irish professionals Peter Lawrie and Gary Murphy booked their places in next month's final qualifying school for the 2000 European Tour after safely negotiating stage two of the qualification process at Peralada in northern Spain yesterday.

Lawrie carded a final-round 70 for a share of 11th place on seven-under-par 281, 10 shots adrift of the winner, Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin. He was joined later on the same mark by Murphy who, following his 66 on Thursday, closed with a 73 on the Costa Brava course.

But there was no joy for James Loughnane and John Dwyer, who finished outside the cut-off point on 286 and 287 respectively.

There was also disappointment at Emporda, where former Walker Cup player Richard Coughlan failed to stage a last-day revival to get into the required top 29.
