In what will possibly be the quickest league programme ever run off by the Leinster Branch, the clubs go back into double weekend mode with the shape of the league looking very much like people thought it would look with Pembroke on top and Fingal and Avoca struggling to keep pace at the bottom.
The first league matches took place on September 15th and just two months later the competition is at the halfway point.
If two matches a weekend were not enough Monkstown’s meeting with Rovers this week took place on Tuesday, the match ending in a 2-2 draw. That followed Monkstown’s Irish Senior Cup match last Saturday, where they beat Railway Union, while they are scheduled to meet Pembroke on Saturday and Glenanne on Sunday.
It would be remiss not to mark the retirement of Irish umpire Carol Metchette. The former Old Alex player was forced to hang up her whistle from international tournaments because she’s reached the cut-off age of 47. A regular umpire in men’s games around Leinster, the twice Irish Senior Cup winner took up umpiring in 2002 and went on to referee at two Olympics.
