An intercepted try by right wing Colin Leahy in the 102nd minute gave Wanderers an extratime victory over Buccaneers in the Smithwicks Old Belvedere Floodlit Cup last night. Buccaneers created enough chances to win. Centre Eamon Molloy was off target with two penalties in extra time, one of them coming back off an upright, while out-half Derek Lawlor was also off target with a dropped goal attempt from a favourable position.

Buccaneers led by 9-7 at the break and they increased that when Noel Mannion scored a try three minutes into the second half.

However, Wanderers then enjoyed their best period of the game and after Eric Olazabel had cut the gap to a point with two penalties, Leahy crossed the line for his first try following a great break by centre Gary Brennan. Olazabel's conversion gave Wanderers a 20-14 lead. But Buccaneers finished the stronger, two penalties in the 62nd and 70th minutes levelled the match.

Scorers: Wanderers (C Leahy 2 tries, D Finnegan try, E Olazabel 2 penalties, 2 conversions), Buccaneers (N Mannion try, E Molloy 3 penalties, D Lawlor 2 penalties).
