Scotland full-back Derrick Lee says English referee Steve Lander had a hand in the New Zealand Maoris' 24-8 victory at Murrayfield on Saturday.
Lee was adjudged to have deliberately checked Adrian Cash more's chip-and-chase run to the line 10 minutes into the second half, with Scotland 9-3 down.
Lander initially waved for play to continue as the home defence retrieved the situation before changing his decision and awarding a penalty to the Maoris on the advice of a touch judge.
"I couldn't believe it," said Lee. "I knew he was going to hack the ball past me and I even got a touch on it. But there was no way I could move out of the way. I certainly didn't make a deliberate attempt to stop him.
"We were still in the game at that point and they kicked a penalty from it but it is just one of those things you have to accept, I suppose."
Maori captain Deon Muir had words of comfort after a match that was played in driving rain for the first half.
"The Scots were up in our faces all the time and didn't allow us room to move. They showed they have got what it takes to be at the top level and they are still a force in international rugby."
