Leitrim turned in a superb display at Brewster Park to secure their second win and leave Fermanagh still pointless after three rounds. Fermanagh took a four-point lead with a well-taken Stephen Maguire goal in the 14th minute. However, with full forward Adrian Cullen making life difficult for Fermanagh new boy, Rory McEnhill, Leitrim snatched the lead three minutes before half-time when Padraig McLoughlin stabbed the ball home from close range.
On the resumption of play, Leitrim nailed their colours to the mast with a terrific goal from Fintan McBrien, who followed up with two well-taken points. Leitrim, now managed by former Fermanagh player, Michael McGinnity, were unstoppable and midway through the half, led by 2-8 to 1-5.
Fermanagh, who laboured without reward for a breakthrough, finally got it in the 51st minute when Kieran Donnelly scored. A Raymond Gallagher pointed free left just two points between the teams, but Leitrim proved they are far from being a soft touch. The outstanding Rooney steadied their nerves with a glorious point and added two more to leave Fermanagh helpless.
