A champagne performance from Leitrim's young debutantes overwhelmed Carlow in an entertaining but ultimately one-sided encounter at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada, yesterday. Leitrim got off to a dream start when a speculative lob by Adrian Cullen hit the post and rebounded into the Carlow net in the third minute. Leitrim went further ahead through a Gene Bohan point in the 13th minute before Carlow opened their account with points from Colm Hayden and Jody Morrissey in the 15th and 16th minute.
One minute later Leitrim scored their second goal when Christopher Carroll netted.
Leading 2-3 to 0-4 at the break, Leitrim withstood an early Carlow onslaught which yielded two points from frees by Colm Hayden, but a succession of Leitrim points put the game beyond Carlow.
