Leitrim 0-12 Sligo 0-7:Leitrim's good run in the Connacht League continued with a deserved victory over Sligo in a free-ridden game at Páirc Seán Mhic Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon, yesterday. The home team's efforts came to nought as Galway's victory over GMIT qualified the Tribesmen for the final.

Although both sides fielded largely experimental line-ups, Leitrim's Des Dolan will be the happier manager as a second-half scoring blitz by his young charges ended the game as a contest long before the final whistle.

It took 10 minutes for the first score to arrive when Sligo's Daniel Davey landed a superb long-range effort, followed two minutes later by an equally impressive second Sligo point from play by Eamonn Cawley.

Leitrim replied in kind with two points from play by Darren Duignan and Ciarán Duignan in the 14th and 17th minutes. However, it was a largely forgettable first period remembered mainly for the high quality of scores as Leitrim deserved their half-time lead of 0-4 to 0-3.

Mark Brehony's pointed free four minutes after the break restored parity but the midfield pairing of Gary McCloskey and Michael Duignan gained the upper hand as Sligo's defence were punished with points by free-taker Emlyn Mulligan. Two further long-range points from play by Michael Foley and Michael Duignan sealed victory.
