Onye Ekuma-Nkama inspired his side to victory in this opening round at Lakelands Park yesterday. The number eight dominated the lineouts, and was instrumental in setting up the King's Hospital try midway through the second-half. His vital break sent replacement Keith Sothern in for a try which Ronan Sheridan converted to put King's Hospital ahead 7-6 after Conor Mullen and Daniel Lewis had landed penalties for St Andrew's.

Philip Caldwell delivered the telling bow when he was on target with a drop-goal.

Yesterday's report on the game between St Paul's and Newbridge contained a number of errors. Referee Sean Buggy sent off a St Paul's player in the course of the game, a fact which went unreported, while Brian Amerlynck and Colin Staunton were described as Newbridge second rows. In fact, they play with St Paul's.
