Explosive All Blacks wing Jonah Lomu set a New Zealand rugby sprint record yesterday after a group of Auckland Blues players were summoned to repeat their regular fitness tests.

The dozen players were put through the routines after the Blues' management, national fitness co-ordinator Martin Toomey and the All Blacks panel were dissatisfied with the group's results a fortnight ago.

All New Zealand Super 12 squads receive regular testing and the Blues were examined two days after their match against Queensland, when on average their times were lower than the other squads in the competition.

Re-run requests were made for 12 players and as a result Lomu set the record for the 10 metre sprint from a standing start.
