ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP:LONDON IRISH have completed the signing of highly-rated New Zealander Daniel Bowden

The 23-year-old will join the Exiles on a two-year contract in the summer after catching the eye with some excellent performances for the Crusaders in the Super 14.

Bowden, who has represented New Zealand at schools, under-17, under-19 and under-21 level, can play at inside centre or outhalf, and his attacking abilities are likely to help him settle in to an Irish side renowned for being one of the more adventurous sides in the English Premiership.

“We rate Daniel very highly and are confident that he will have an instant impact at the club,” London Irish head coach Toby Booth said.

“His positional versatility is attractive, as well as being a renowned goal-kicker is an additional bonus. Everybody associates us with a certain brand of rugby and our recruitment of Daniel is specifically related to our ability to play that brand. Mike Catt (player-coach) is very excited to integrate him into our already potent attack.”

Bowden is similarly excited about his move.

“I am excited about linking up with London Irish after I finish the Super 14 season with Crusaders,” he said. “Playing in the Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup will be a new challenge and I expect that I will have some adjustments to make to my playing style.

“I’ve watched Irish play over recent seasons and I feel it is a team and style of rugby that I’m looking forward to being a part of.”
