NFL Longford 1-19 Carlow 0-9: Longford consolidated their place at the top of the Division Two A table when they cruised to a very comfortable win over a disappointing Carlow side in this one-sided game in perfect conditions at Pearse Park yesterday afternoon.
Deadly accurate corner forward Padraic Davis was the star of the show in the first half, kicking a total of seven points, while Jamesie Martin and wing back Shane Mulligan were also on target for the rampant home side who led by 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time.
Longford even overcame the handicap of having midfielder Paul O'Hara sent off for a straight red card in the 18th minute and things did not get any better for Carlow in the second half as they conceded a further 1-10, although they did manage to score six points themselves.
Four of the Longford points were registered by newcomer Brian Kavanagh, who made a big impact when brought on at the start of the second half, while Longford playmaker Trevor Smullen capped a terrific display when he grabbed the only goal of the game in the final minute of the game.
