National League/Longford Town - 1 UCD - 0: A gift second-half goal scored by Andy Myler put Longford Town back on the winning trail in the Premier Division at Flancare Park on Saturday night and Alan Matthews side jump three places to seventh in the table.
UCD almost took the lead in the 11th minute when Longford goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien failed to collect the ball but Seán Dillon cleared the danger.
Longford put their first decent move together, the end result of which was a Shane Barrett shot but there was no power behind the strike in the 16th minute. The home side did have a chance when Myler had a close-range shot deflected out for a corner in the 35th minute.
Dessie Baker was brought on at the start of the second half, with Alan Kirby moving into the centre of midfield, and Longford went close to scoring but Gary Cronin hesitated and UCD booted the ball to safety.
Longford scored in the 63rd minute when Myler who shot past opposing Darren Quigley in finding the corner of the net.
The nearest UCD came to snatching a draw was from a Conor Kenna header that was narrowly wide in the 79th minute. Longford almost scored again when Alan Kirby blasted a piledriver just over the bar.
