Ryder Cup failure Davis Love collected a nice consolation prize when he won the $1.2 million Buick Challenge by four strokes yesterday. Love, the only member of the losing American Ryder Cup team to play in Georgia, made his effort worthwhile when he led throughout the final round on his way to a four-under-par 68 on another ideal day for low scoring.
He finished at 21-under 267, a tournament record low score, while compatriot Stewart Cink (70) was second on 271. Another stroke back was Steve Lowery, who provided the day's biggest excitement, reeling off two eagles and eight birdies in a 12-under 60, a course record by three strokes. Lowery tied for third with Hal Sutton (66).
