ULSTER CLUB FOOTBALL - Cavan Gaels 1-7 St Gall's 0-7:WITH 10 bookings and three players sent off, yesterday's Ulster club football quarter-final at Casement Park was far from being a spectacle as both St Gall's and Cavan Gaels became involved in some unsavoury incidents.
The first booking arrived as early as the second minute when Gaels' full back Darren Rabbitte saw yellow and that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Cavan Gaels edged through to a semi-final meeting with Ballinderry and fully deserved their victory with a 14th-minute goal by Michael Lyng being the all-important score.
Scoring was at a minimum but the goal arrived when Lyng, after a surging solo run down the right wing by Niall Murray, finished the centre to the net.
The visitors led by 1-2 to 0-2 entering first-half injury-time but before the whistle Terry O'Neill, Karl Stewart and Seán Kelly put over home points to leave the sides level, 1-2 to 0-5, at the interval.
Two early points after the restart put the Gaels ahead but CJ McGourty balanced the scales from a free-kick and from play in the 44th and 46th minutes.
Those were St Gall's last scores as Cavan Gaels finished stronger with points by Eamon Reilly, Niall Murray and Seanie Johnston for a deserved victory.
