UCD 0 Bohemians 2 PADDY MADDEN added another two goals to his current streak as Bohemians stay third in the table with arguably their best display of the season. The 21-year-old brought his tally to nine in the last five games.
Bohemians pegged UCD into their final third from the off, taking the lead by the 12th minute.
Home goalkeeper Billy Brennan was twice in action prior to the goal, first stretching to clasp Madden’s header after Paul Keegan got free on the left to cross. Mark Quigley then held off a challenge to pick out Raff Cretaro at the back post, but Brennan pushed the ball out for a corner.
The pressure on the UCD goal finally told when Cretaro went to ground under a clumsy tackle from midfielder Paul Corry, who compounded having lost possession in the build-up.
Referee Dave McKeon pointed to the spot and Madden sent Brennan the wrong way.
Brennan remain busy as he got down well to hold Cretaro’s snap shot on the turn on 35 minutes as Bohemians maintained their grip on the game. A lovely interchange of passing in from the right carved UCD open on 41 minutes, Gareth McGlynn working a one-two with Cretaro to see his curling shot deflected out for a corner.
Quigley fired into the side netting early in the second half before the introduction of Ciarán Kilduff roused UCD. The striker was on the pitch scarcely a minute when he muscled in behind the rearguard to shoot wide across goal.
But the pressure soon resumed on the UCD goal with Brennan saving with his feet from Cretaro before McGlynn missed a sitter.
Madden sealed Bohemians’ win on 72 minutes. Played in by Cretaro, he drew Brennan off his line before sweeping the ball past him with his right foot.
