Clongowes Wood ... 5 Skerries CC ... 0Kevin Mahony, second cousin of All-Ireland League playing brothers, Cian and Conor, was the hero for Clongowes in yesterday's clash played at Barnhall.
With the second half played under a continuous downpour, both teams deserved great credit for sticking it out in what were very trying conditions.
Indeed, the game was delayed by nearly five minutes when referee Peter Fagan required treatment after mud and debris had reduced his vision in one eye.
The only score of the game came just on half-time when, after good work by Clongowes right wing Ruari Lynch, Mahony made it over in the corner.
Skerries, however, produced a fighting display in the second half and were almost over for a try themselves when second row Conor Shanley was stopped just inches short of the Clongowes line.
