Lawrie McMenemy has vowed to quit as Northern Ireland boss if the fans turn on him. McMenemy's contract is up for renewal at the end of Northern Ireland's Euro 2000 campaign and he claims he will not stay if the supporters do not want him to remain in charge.
The Irish face Turkey in Belfast today in their last home qualifying tie and even though their hopes of reaching the finals have all but gone, McMenemy claims he has made progress during his 19 month-reign.
"At the end of the day the public and my players will be my judge," he said.
McMenemy is expected to keep faith with the side which performed so admirably against France. Turkey have injury worries and a host of players have been receiving treatment.
