Marist College, Athlone 3-9 Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar 0-3:Marist College, Athlone proved far too good for a weak Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar outfit in an all-Westmeath clash in the second round of the Leinster Colleges senior football "A" championship in Ballynacargy.
On a surface that was scarcely playable, the Athlone lads coped far better with the appalling conditions.
Marist College were already 0-4 to 0-0 ahead when Niall Neary rounded off a fine move with a great goal midway through the first half and they went on to lead by 1-5 to 0-1 at the break.
Coláiste Mhuire took to the field in the second half in a changed strip but the pattern of the game continued as it had been in the opening half an hour with Marist dominating throughout the pitch.
Any lingering doubts about the outcome were ended when the Athlone lads pounced for a quickfire brace of goals at the start of the fourth quarter via substitute Aidan Byrne and Niall Neary.
