UCD - 1 Finn Harps - 1: Robbie Martin was calmness personified from the penalty spot once again to earn UCD a point for the second week running.
Martin, who scored an equaliser from the spot against Bohemians last week, drove home the 62nd-minute penalty after he had been pulled down by Harps' goalkeeper Gavin Cullen after racing through on to Alan Mahon's ball over the top.
That levelled Stephen Capper's bolt from the blue that put bottom of the table Harps in front in the 52nd minute of an uninspiring match.
There was little or nothing on as Capper took possession some 30 yards from goal. The midfielder then cut across-field and beat Darren Quigley with a deflected left-foot shot that dipped in under the bar.
Michael Funston then brought a full-stretch save out of Quigley as Harps enjoyed their best spell of the game.
UCD soon hit back and, having equalised, Martin twice came close to putting them in front only to find Cullen there to redeem his penalty indiscretion with two excellent saves.
Mick O'Donnell worked the opening for the first chance on 67 minutes with Cullen doing well to parry away Martin's drive.
Martin was then in on goal minutes later but Cullen again saved well, this time with his feet.
Tony McDonnell has scored five goals so far this season, all but one of them with his head, and the College captain's threat was all too evident as he almost gave them the lead from the first tangible attack of the match on 14 minutes.
The move appeared as though it was straight off the training ground as Martin hooked on Mahon's long throw and McDonnell's header produced an agile save from Cullen, who turned the ball round a post with one hand.
McDonnell again used his 6ft 3ins (190 cm) stature to get to Gary Dicker's resultant corner, only to plant this header over the crossbar.
Harps continued to struggle to get into the match and didn't have an effort on goal until the 36th minute.
Kevin McHugh and Paddy McGrenaghan worked the ball in from the right to set up Capper, but the Irish underage international drilled his shot a good yard wide of Quigley's left-hand post.
