Representative friendlies/Ulster 33; Orrell 3: Ulster made light work of their friendly against ambitious English National Division One side Orrell with a five-try victory at Ravenhill last night.
While Ireland assistant coach Declan Kidney had come to watch World Cup hopefuls Gary Longwell, Simon Best and Paul Shields, it was debutant winger Andrew Maxwell who shone the brightest.
The 22-year-old's electric pace was a thorn in the Orrell side all night and he took just six minutes to notch up the first of two touchdowns, taking the ball on the blindside before a neat side-step took him over.
Paddy Wallace, who landed four conversions, showed a similar turn of pace to race over for a second try in the 15th minute.
Orrell, who had taken a first-minute lead from a penalty by David Slemen, struggled for possession and territory all night.
However, tries from Andy Ward, substitute wing Scott Young and full back Bryn Cunningham completed the victory.
