Mayo 2-13 GMIT 0-6:The students of GMIT were given another harsh lesson by Mayo in this second Connacht FBD League tie at Ballinrobe last evening.

Mayo manager James Horan could throw caution to the wind as his team is out of the competition and his decision to move defenders Lee Keegan and Richie Feeney to attack paid off handsomely, Feeney scoring Mayo’s first-half goal and Keegan fired two fine points to give the Connacht champions a 1-9 to 0-2 lead at the interval.

Feeney and Keegan were on target early in the second half before the latter set up Conor O’Shea for a tap-in goal to end the game as a contest with 20 minutes still remaining.

Horan has called on the Connacht Council to take a look at the FBD competition and how it serves the counties in the early season.

“I just think the FBD League needs to be looked at. It is no harm to review these things every now and again. We have to ask how effective it is,” said Horan, whose side recently returned from a team holiday to Florida.
