Kyle McCallan missed the opening World Cup cricket qualifying match in Toronto yesterday and in his absence a poor Ireland side was soundly beaten by the US.
The Ireland captain, who has been battling a debilitating stomach illness, could only watch as a succession of team-mates threw away their wickets as they were bowled out for 209.
Ed Joyce held the innings together with a well-paced 80 from 87 balls on a pitch that had looked full of runs when Andy White and Jason Molins added 58 for the first wicket.
Mark Johnson had 54 off 45 balls for the US and former West Indian Test batsman Faoud Bachus 44, three runs shy of his age.
