Planet Football salutes Stephen Carr, Roy Keane, Damien Duff, Steve Finnan and Graham Kavanagh, who made it in to their respective divisions' "teams of the year" at the Professional Footballers' Association awards last week.
All of which made it a particularly pleasant few days for Duff who was voted "Player of the Year" by Blackburn's supporters not long before playing his part in the 10 win at Preston that secured promotion to the Premiership. The only downer for the young fella is that every English tabloid tells us he's top of Liverpool's summer shopping list. Just when things were going well.
Sympathy and compassion, though, played a significant part in our "player of the week" deliberations, with our award being shared between Huddersfield's Thomas Heary and Coventry's Barry Quinn, Lee Carsley (above) and Gary Breen, all of whom experienced "the big drop" at the weekend. Particularly rough on Carsley, we reckoned, seeing as he joined Coventry from . . . Blackburn earlier in the season.
